Knowing Christ - A Joy by Annie Alwin
Knowing Christ – A Joy
Let Go, Take
hold, Press on.
If I asked
you, “Do you know Christ?” you might think that I am being silly. In this
passage we are going to look in light of God’s word “DO WE REALLY KNOW CHRIST?”
OR “KNOW ABOUT CHRIST?”
What is
knowing Christ means?
Ginosko and
Oida are the two Greek words which is used in Bible for knowing.
Ginosko –
to know by experience in a intimate and personal way.
Oida – to
know by observation or have knowledge of. It was Paul’s prayer that we grow in
Ginosko (Personal and intimate knowledge) Philippians 3:8,10.
Knowing Christ
is not Working for Christ.
We always
confuse knowing with working. It is like telling I know the CEO of the company
because I work for him, but you will agree with me that this knowing is very
peripheral, there is nothing deeper or personal in it. Jesus said there will
come a day when he tells many religious practitioners (Prophets, Miracle
Workers) that he never knows them and infact he tells them to depart from him
and he calls them evil doers. Why? Because they fail to commune with him to
know the will of the Father.
What Paul
did for knowing God. (Phil 3:7-14)
Though
Christ initiated personal knowing experience with Paul by appearing to him in Damascus
Road, Paul will agree knowing and growing in God daily needs hard work from our
part… What did he do.
a) Let Go: Paul let go all those
credentials credits and accomplishments. He considered them rubbish and garbage
in comparison to knowing Christ.
b) Take hold: He took hold of the
righteousness of Christ that came through faith not by obeying law.
c) Press On: Leaving his old life he
pressed on to posses the heavenly prize. He admitted that he was not perfect,
and he has a long way to go.
It was
Steven J Lawson who said there is a vast difference between merely knowing
about Christ and actually knowing him – The difference between Heaven and Hell.
Now tell me DO YOU REALLY KNOW HIM?
It is my
prayer that each of us will PRESS ON TO KNOW HIM.
Thank you Annie. I commend your thought about the the intimate relation with Christ. Oue existence is by Him,through Him and for Him alone. Praise the Lord.
